ACCENTS AND DIALECTS

Septent

The country of Septent, within which most of the story is set, is very big, and thus hosts plenty of regional accents and dialects. Naturally, I do not have infinite time on my hands, so I can't say the dialects I have confirmed are as fleshed-out or as variable as real-world ones, but it is interesting to me to think about, expecially in how it influences the way my characters speak and how I would write their dialogue. That said, I've stolen pretty much all of the Septentrian accents from real-world accents that I'm familiar with because, a) it's easier, b) it saves my audience the trouble of trying to imagine the accent I made up when they've never heard it before, and c) there is so much variance in the way different groups of people speak that even if I tried to make up a bunch of accents and dialects, there's probably something very similar that already exists. This article mainly just serves to tell you where in Septent each of the accents I mention are from, and who in this world might use them!

That's it, for now!

I'm going to try to build out the languages and dialects of Vaizhen and Tayega, but that might happen rather slowly, since I don't have any major characters who actually come from those places and would therefore have those accents or dialects. Marigold is half-Kezynan (Tayega), but he's lived in Septent his whole life, and Violet's parents emigrated from Shkipang and Nashka (Vaizhen), but she has also lived in Septent for her entire life (sort of. On Septentrian land, anyway, but not under Septentrian jurisdiction), so neither of them would really have dialects from either of those areas.
